Although springtime is usually the time you begin a massive clean-up operation around your home, you shouldn’t hesitate to keep your home and your lawn as clean as possible even well into the summer. But just because you rent a roll-off container, it doesn’t mean you can toss whatever you want into it. You’re probably already familiar with rules regarding disposal of trash and recycling items. Throw These Items Into Roll-Off Containers
Many different types of debris left behind after construction or demolition jobs are fair game for disposal in roll-off containers. So, here is what is safe to include:
- Concrete
- Drywall
- Bricks
- Siding and roofing
- Leftover materials from a home renovation
Although these ordinary items are allowable, did you know there are other things you can throw away too? These may be more unconventional, but consider dumping:
- Old pieces of furniture, such as chairs, tables, and couches
- Broken branches from trees, fallen leaves, and so on
- Rubbish and clutter that has been taking up valuable living space inside your home
- Cardboard and paper
- Garbage and recycling items, as long as there is no food debris left on them
Don’t Throw These Items Into Roll-Off Containers
Avoid throwing these things into roll-off containers:
- Larger appliances that rely on coolants (refrigerators, AC units, etc.)
- Old tires
- Burnt out fireworks or live fireworks
- Anything that can catch fire unexpectedly
Exceptions and Special Permissions
Believe it or not, there are some exceptions for what you can throw into a roll-off container. Occasionally, you will be able to get rid of other bulky household appliances, such as washing machines and dryers. Typical household trash can sometimes be thrown into these dumpsters as well. If you dismantle old tires by cutting them apart, you might be able to include them on your list of junk to go into a roll-off container. These exceptions and special permissions will probably only happen if you pay an upcharge.
Disposing of Items Left Behind
How do you get rid of things that can’t go into a roll-off container? Take them to a facility dedicated to eliminating hazardous waste. Take note that this might not be your county dumping ground. If you have unwanted household electronics that are still in decent working condition, consider donating them to charity.
